MEDICAL SERVICES ONLY (MSO)

Through Medical Services Only, the Ministry of Housing and Social Development may provide specific health supplements to certain categories of former BC Employment and Assistance recipients to meet their health needs.
In addition to Medical Services Plan and PharmaCare coverage, supplementary assistance through Medical Services Only may include prescribed medical supplies and equipment (e.g. orthotics, wheelchairs), basic dental and optical services, and extended medical therapies.
Under BC Employment and Assistance, the following categories of clients may be eligible for health supplements:

Clients	Eligibility Criteria
Persons with Disabilities or their spouse who leave income assistance for employment	Family retains health supplements indefinitely, as long as they have left income assistance for employment and continue to live in B.C.
Persons with Disabilities or their spouse who are under age 65 and leave disability assistance for federal income support such as Canada Pension Plan benefits.	Family retains health benefits indefinitely, as long as they live in B.C.
Persons with Disabilities or their spouse who leave assistance for the Ministry of Children and Family Development’s Agreements with Young Adults.	Family retains health benefits indefinitely, as long as they live in B.C.
Persons eligible for general health supplements or their spouse who leave assistance for Crime Victim Assistance.	Family retains health benefits indefinitely, as long as they live in B.C.
Persons eligible for general health supplements, residing in a special care facility and in receipt of per diems and comforts or their spouse who leave income assistance at age 65.	Family retains health benefits indefinitely, as long as they live in B.C.
Persons with Disabilities, recipients in the Persons with Persistent Multiple Barriers category or their spouses, if their spouses remain dependents, who leave assistance at age 65.	Family retains health benefits indefinitely, as long as they live in B.C.
A person demonstrating a life-threatening health need under the Employment and Assistance Regulation who has no resources to meet the need.	May apply for assistance to receive specific health supplements. Assistance is limited to the specific good or service necessary to meet the life-threatening health need.
