Selling Your Business and Transferring Your Licence
The proposed new owner must apply to transfer your licence to their name using the appropriate liquor licence application form. The application form required depends on the type of licence you hold. It will be one of the following:
For full details on the application process see Applying for a Liquor Licence section of this site.
You, as the current licensee, will need to sign the "Agreement to Transfer Licence" section of the form. This section is where you officially agree that once the general manager approves the transfer application you relinquish all claims to your licence(s). You also acknowledge that you continue to be held responsible for any contraventions that occur until the transfer is approved.
The new owner must complete the rest of the application form, the criminal record search forms, any other documentation required, attach the application fee, and mail the entire package to branch headquarters in Victoria (the address is on the application form). If applicable, you must also give the new owner all records of liquor bought from the Liquor Distribution Branch that is in stock at the time of the sale.
Note: as the current licensee, make sure the new owner knows when your current licence is due to expire. The new owner must renew on time or will have to pay a late renewal fee of $200.00.
